Marriott Vacations Worldwide Awards New Legacy Award Recipient

And the MVW Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals Legacy Award Goes To…

Steve Weisz, president and chief executive officer of Marriott Vacations Worldwide (MVW) proudly announces this year’s recipient of the coveted 2018 Legacy Award, Marriott’s Newport Coast Villas in Newport Coast, Calif.

Marriott’s Newport Coast Villas is the second recipient of this award; the inaugural recipient was Marriott’s OceanWatch Villas at Grand Dunes in 2017.

MVW honored its 35-year partnership with Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals (CMN Hospitals) by introducing the Legacy Award. This prestigious award was created to not only recognize the associates at one property who go above-and-beyond in doing good, but also to proudly commemorate the value and impact those efforts have in their communities.

The Legacy Award is based on four principles:

  1. Unique, extraordinary or ‘outside-the-box’ fundraising ideas
  2. Demonstration of amazing spirit of teamwork and leadership during fundraising event(s)
  3. Meaningful engagement with the resort’s benefiting local hospital
  4. Sustainable fundraising opportunities that thrive in MVW’s culture of giving

In 2018, MVW raised a total of $1.9 million for CMN Hospitals in 2018. These funds are raised in a variety of creative ways including resort events, guest donations, golf tournaments like Caring Classic, and more. Newport Coast Villas played a vital part in that annual total – from raising just over $50K in 2014 to $89,742 in 2018, their story continues to be a driving force of how this organization can impact local communities.

In support of the guiding principle to create sustainable fundraising opportunities within MVW’s culture of giving, the Newport Coast Villas team rallied together to create a CMN committee. The Newport Coast CMN committee takes great pride in leading the “One Team” focus throughout the year to help keep all supporters motivated to achieve set goals and share the gratification of giving.

The drive to help kids live better resonates with both staff and guests at Newport Coast Villas. The associates held several events which allowed the front office teams to have an integral role with the guest experience: RFID wristbands, ice cream and s’more treats offered at weekly guest activities and the iconic Root Beer Floats as an homage to Marriott’s history. Through generous donations from vendors and guests, the team has held several golf-ball drop events on property along with the efforts of the talented cooks in housekeeping, who cook for the team. The Newport Coast Team has been able to participate in the annual CHOC walk in Disneyland, which gives them and their families the opportunity to donate and have the excitement of participating together as one dedicated team.

The key to our fund-raising successes is tapping into people with the passion for serving! Those people are abundant at an award-winning resort such as Newport Coast Villas,” said Jim Marks, General Manager of Marriott’s Newport Coast Villas.

Children’s Hospital of Orange County Children’s is the benefiting local hospital of funds raised by Newport Coast Villas. Their moto: By keeping kids healthy, we keep childhood alive and well. CHOC Children’s is known as a leader among pediatric care and research and has won multiple awards like the 2018-19 Best Children’s Hospitals U.S. News & World Report. As a non-profit health system, it relies on community support to provide leading edge care for infants, children and adolescents close to home.

“Congratulations to Marriott’s Newport Coast Villas for their outstanding contributions and commitment to Children’s Miracle Network. I am always inspired by the team’s tireless efforts to create fun and unique ways to raise awareness and funds for the children in our community. CHOC Children’s is truly blessed to have such an amazing partner,” expressed Lisa Mitaux, Director, Corporate Engagement at CHOC Children’s Foundation.

As the cherry on top to a record-breaking year at Newport, a Children’s Activity Area was dedicated to Marriott’s Newport Coast Villas on the third floor of the Bill Holmes Tower at CHOC Children’s. Not only does this space provide comfort as families and siblings of patients wait during surgery of loved ones, but also represents the importance of family at our Marriott Vacation Club Resorts.
